Abstract
We propose to measure isotopic fission-fragment yields as a function of excitation energy in
the 236U fissioning system produced by a transfer reaction between a 232Th beam and a carbon target. Utilizing the newly-developed, highly-segmented PISTA2 silicon array (Particle
Identification Silicon Telescope Array, second generation) — building on the successful de-
ployment of the PISTA array in 2023 and 2024 — we aim to obtain isotopic fission yields with
high statistical precision, within energy bins of less than 1 MeV, across an excitation energy
range of 8 to 20 MeV. This proposal specifically focuses on the 236 U fissioning system gener-
ated by an a transfer reaction from a 12C target, a critical system for nuclear applications.
Additionally, the ongoing development of the Fragment Partner Detector (FPD) at VAMOS
will enhance our ability to obtain detailed insights into the fission process, particularly the
scission configuration.
